Personal Growth

Personal Growth

- Abhishek

When we do not have a strong desire to achieve something, we become soft targets for depression to consume us. Our capacity to pursue a career is dependent on many external factors, mainly our family, society and larger cultural environment. If not duly supported, we feel bitter and nurse the hurt for many years. We must distinguish between ambition for personal gain and a strong desire for personal growth. If we want to pursue a career, we can be thwarted, but if we're going to become confident, alert and grand, we can be stopped only by ourselves.

Those who work towards developing a set of values are pursuing the highest form of ambition. We do not want to follow values alone, for a person with values to prove his/her worth also should have some "real" work to show. We must always test our value system.

When you always want to achieve something big or small, you have made ambition a core value. Ambition as a value needs support and can be nurtured. It would help if you took risks to achieve things in life; mostly, you must risk rejection. Only a person who feels he has an abundance of self-worth can risk rejection.

We all seek acceptance of some kind from others; we are most comfortable with those who do accept us for who we are. Still, our search for acceptance seems a never-ending one. But we may be missing out on our approval. Acceptance is when we do not deny our weakness, strength, ambition, effort, and lack of skill and critical drive. We admit the full spectrum of our feelings and are not troubled by it. State of acceptance is akin to a form of diagnosis. To know the state of mind is essential. Else there can be no remedial steps to our dissatisfaction or boredom.

Acceptance and ambition combined can become powerful engines for personal growth.
